Adventures in Mixology

This blog began as a desire to learn and a Facebook post. My name is Kate and I have always been fascinated by food and drink and the impact it has on our lives and culture. What we choose to serve to guests as well as what we choose to comfort ourselves says a lot about the person inside each of us. Recently I found my attention drawn to cocktails and mixology. After being overwhelmed by the endless varieties of drink options I posted a request on Facebook for cocktails I should learn to make. My friends were more than happy to indulge me with their favorites and so it all began.

As a child I spent a good deal of time with an aunt who always treated celebrations with a level of care that amazes me even to this day. She managed birthdays and other parties - sometimes as simple as a picnic in the park - that included decorations, food and baking all following a theme that thrilled us children. I remember fondly a Cinderella themed cake that was a 3D pumpkin which I could have marveled at for hours if I hadn't been even more interested in the taste of that orange icing.

Since those days I have prided myself on being a good host and surrounded myself with friends who do the same. I count myself lucky to be surrounded by such amazingly talented cooks, knowledgeable wine experts and artists/ creators of all varieties. The food and drinks I serve to the people in my world are my way of caring for all these individuals and I look forward to learning a variety of new things to delight them all. Please join me in the adventure.
